Maya began her artistic training
as a child in the art schools of Leningrad, where she studied
painting, drawing and compositional technique. After attending the
Leningrad High College of Art and Design, Maya worked in the field
of children’s book illustration, wallpaper design, took part in
the elaboration of the murals for the cinema halls and concert
halls in Leningrad, Moscow, Erevan and Komsomolsk-na-Amure, and in
private residences. Maya’s paintings are so rich with colour,
light and detail that they reflect not only an extraordinary
draughtsmanship but also a sense of artistic well-being and
happiness. In the hands of this artist, interiors and still lives
become extraordinary, and the chairs and flowers, harps and roman
pillars that have been interpreted by generations of artists take
on personas that could be sophisticated and rich, whimsical and
fun, having their own independent life within the painting. Maya
works in water-colours and oils, using her own distinctive
technique that combines oil painting and etching. |
